Free Valley Daze Screening Celebrates San Fernando Valley Filmmakers
This event celebrates the next generation of homegrown filmmakers – Valley-raised, recent grads from film schools bringing authentic, deeply personal visions of Los Angeles to the screen. It’s a tribute to independent cinema and the creative spirit that defines our city, featuring a live band performance and a panel discussion on the Keep Hollywood Home campaign.
About Keep Hollywood Home
Councilmember Adrin Nazarian and the District 2 team are spearheading the “Keep Hollywood Home” initiative, working to keep film and television productions and the jobs they create rooted in Los Angeles. Recently, their team has launched Micro Shoot Permits to make filming more accessible for students and low-budget productions. Valley Daze Movie Synopsis
Valley Daze follows a group of young creatives navigating friendship, ambition, love, and identity across the San Fernando Valley. Inspired by the energy of Los Angeles youth culture, the project captures moments of chaos, nostalgia, creativity, and connection through a visually expressive cinematic style. The project captures something raw and restless about life in L.A.… the hunger a generation feels for a city that’s always just out of reach. It moves between narrative filmmaking, visual experimentation, and editorial aesthetics, grounded throughout by storytelling drawn from real, lived experience.
About the Valley Daze Team
Creators Genu Lee and Jocelyn Catt first became friends in third grade, bonding over a shared passion of filmmaking that would shape the next two decades of their lives. Together, they spent their adolescence making short films and building a remarkable network of creatives along the way, including producer David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Late Night with the Devil, Prisoners), costume designer Cady Loeb, director Marco Bizio, actor Anahi Valenzuela, storyboard artist Steve Roybal, and composers Bennett Wyler and Jahvon Morse. When the time came to tell a story truly their own, they brought this community of creatives together to craft a project rooted in their values and lived experience. Thanks to grassroots community funding, their pilot became a reality and screened to an audience of over 1,000 Angelenos at the historic Million Dollar Theatre. Through these community-driven efforts, the team connected with Councilmember Adrin Nazarian’s office to support the ongoing movement to Keep Hollywood home.
