[NoHo Arts District, CA]  –  Hamilton Haus brings its new dance production Behind Closed Doors to El Portal Theatre on November 10, marking the L.A. dance company’s two-year anniversary with a cast of 52 dancers.

Founded by choreographer and dancer Hamilton Evans in 2024, Hamilton Haus was created as more than a training company. Its mission is to give dancers a place to develop their craft, build industry connections, pursue professional opportunities and become part of a supportive creative community in L.A.

We asked Hamilton Evans about the inspiration behind Hamilton Haus, the process of creating Behind Closed Doors, how the company supports dancers in L.A. and what’s next.

What inspired you to create Hamilton Haus?

I have been in the dance industry in L.A. for over a decade now. To this day, I still think L.A. has so many opportunities to train, grow and push yourself as a dancer or in any of the entertainment fields, for that matter. As amazing as the quality of training is here and the endless options there are to zone in on your craft, the one thing I felt that was lacking and still is, is finding your community within that.

I created the company to provide a community for dancers who not only want to train and push themselves to get better in their craft, but also a place that brings them professional opportunities, helps them to connect with the right people to make it happen, and most importantly, be part of a community where they can be themselves and belong. Somewhere they can call home.

Tell me a little bit about the show and the process of creating it?

Our upcoming show Behind Closed Doors will be a spectacular evening of celebrating dance that features a whopping cast of 52 incredible dancers. It will be at the beautiful El Portal Theatre on November 10th, which happens to fall on our two-year anniversary as a company.

The creative process of creating the show has been amazing so far. Each rehearsal is creating such a beautiful bond between the company members and everyone is pushing one another to provide the best show possible for attendees. The support within the company is truly so special.

The process of creating a show of this scale is never an easy one, it really does take a village to make it happen. Every dancer involved has been part of that village for both myself and one another.

What is your favorite memory with the company?

This is a tricky question to ask, as there are so many. I would have to say some of my fondest memories are when I get to watch the company perform live and thinking about how much growth has occurred to get to that point.

Where do you see Hamilton Haus in the future?

We have huge plans for the company in the future. We are working on expanding Hamilton Haus on a larger scale to be able to have our own creative space. The goal is to be able to provide what we are already experiencing to as much of the dance community as possible.

How are you helping dancers in L.A.?

This industry requires a lot more than just being an amazing dancer. I have provided not only a community to help dancers reach their best potential but also help members understand the industry, get them in front of the right people, secure a dance agent and book professional jobs.

Besides that, one thing I take huge pride in is making sure the training is both high quality and affordable in today’s economy. So many other creatives often tell me I should charge a lot more for what I am providing. But my answer is the same every time. I want to provide what was never an option for me.

Anything else you want to share about yourself or Hamilton Haus?

Yes. For anyone interested in joining Hamilton Haus, we will have tryouts on November 13. Stay tuned for the details on our social media.

During the tryouts, we will also be expanding by adding an all-new teen group to The Company.

I think the best way I can share more about myself and the company is to have you come see the show.

Behind Closed Doors is certainly going to give you a lot more insight into what we do and why we do it. Not to mention, the show will be epic. 🙂
