[NoHo Arts District, CA] – The Martha Graham Dance Company’s 100th Season continues at The Soraya with GRAHAM100 and a special centennial creation by Bernstein, Rountree, and Boykin featuring Wild Up.
About GRAHAM100
En Masse by Hope Boykin
Music by Leonard Bernstein and Christopher Rountree

Night Journey by Martha Graham
Music by William Schuman

We the People by Jamar Roberts
Music by Rhiannon Giddens
The Martha Graham Dance Company’s centennial continues with three monumental pieces: Graham’s 1947 Night Journey, a rarely seen work based on Oedipus; We the People, with a folk score by Rhiannon Giddens, a 2024 creation inspired by Graham’s longstanding sociopolitical critique; and a world premiere entitled En Masse that extends The Soraya’s commitment to Graham’s collaborations with composers. This new commission, choreographed by Hope Boykin, is a first-ever pairing of Graham and Leonard Bernstein. Their posthumous partnership, inspired by a musical excerpt discovered in their correspondence, headlines Graham’s worldwide centennial. Wild Up performs Christopher Rountree’s new arrangement of Bernstein, as well as William Schuman’s score for Night Journey.
