Storybook Theatre’s “Goldilocks & The Three Bears” delights children and adults alike every Saturday at 1pm at Theatre West through June 4.
Each year, Covid not withstanding, Storybook Theatre brings its delightful children’s theatre productions to the well-worn boards of Los Angeles’s oldest, continuously run theatre, Theatre West. Each season is a different version of a classic. This year, they bring to life the well-loved Goldilocks, with songs and dances and some very funny and sweet interaction with the audience.
It’s a really wonderful treat to be back in theatre, made all the more brilliant to be sitting there surrounded by children transfixed by the excellent performers and the wonderfully engaging sets, costumes and songs.
It’s about an hour long, just the right amount of time for small children, with a little stretch break half way through, which I really enjoyed myself I can tell you!
I took my daughter and her daughter Luna. In fact, it was Luna’s first play, as she just turned one a couple of weeks ago. Honestly, that might be a bit young for most kids, my Luna however is particularly wonderful and well behaved, am I biased? Probably. Needless to say, she was utterly mesmerized and thoroughly entertained, which was a thrill for me and her mum!
The show is a perfect way to introduce live theatre to a child. The actors are warm and funny and genuine. A kid can tell a fake a mile away after all!
The story is simple and fun, creative and compelling. Teaching lessons about ownership and manners and unfound fears of the unknown and the different. Perfect for our particularly fraught world right now. But all the lessons are gently told, all very sweet and kind and entertaining.
It’s never too young to become a theatre lover. Storybook Theatre’s “Goldilocks & The Three Bears” at Theatre West is a wonderful way to introduce theatre to a child. It’s also pretty fun for the parents too, and I gather they are all available for private parties! What a wonderful idea!
The show runs for the next few weeks, every Saturday at 1pm, until June 4. So don’t dawdle!!!
