Gearing Up for Fall Festivities

Gearing Up for Fall Festivities

Ahhh, autumn. Is there anything better? Between football, the changing leaves, and the pumpkin spice-ification of, well, pretty much everything, it’s hard to beat this season. On top of that, there always seems to be fun things to do around this time of year. If you’re gearing up for fall festivities, read this for some fun and festive ways to savor this special season.

Throw a Pumpkin Carving Party

If you’re like most people, carving pumpkins can become more of a chore than a fun activity. Make it a party and a bit of competition, however, and you’ve got yourself a good time. Invite over your friends (B.Y.O.P. – bring your own pumpkin, of course), provide the pumpkin carving supplies from Party City, and watch as people you didn’t know had a creative bone in their bodies create masterpieces. If you really want to make it festive, provide some mulled wine for the adults and allow the kiddos to roast some S’Mores over the fire pit. The real fun will take place once the sun sets, as you can provide each guest with a tea light to put in his or her pumpkin. Provide a ballot box and allow people to vote in their favorite pumpkin. This is such a fun event that you’ll want to make an annual tradition.

Take in the Scenery

Depending on where you live, this is a great time of year to hop in the car and head to the hills or mountains to truly enjoy the changing leaves. Find out if there are apple picking orchards nearby and reap the benefits by making a killer apple pie like Grandma used to make. If you’ve got kids, a trip to the pumpkin patch is a must. Many towns offer patches with much more than just pumpkins; with rides, face painting, giant slides, and more, a trip to the pumpkin patch can be an all-day event if you so choose.

Spark Your Spooky Side

If you love Halloween, you love this time of year. With temporary stores popping up with all the requisite zombie, vampire, and monster attire, this is the time of year to bring out your creative side. You don’t have to save your Halloween garb for October 31st, however. Don fun Halloween shirts like these from Tipsy Elves any day you’d like. We personally love the “ZomBAE” option oh so much. Get in the mood by heading to a local open house or by watching your favorite scary movie.

If you’re feeling motivated, throw a Halloween shindig that will be remembered for years to come. Simply type the words “Halloween party” into Pinterest and your head could possibly explode from the plethora of ominous options. From witches’ potion punch to lady finger treats, the food and beverages alone can take the party up a festive notch. Places like Pottery Barn and Z Gallerie have amazing Halloween decorations but there are plenty of DIY Halloween decoration options, too. Whatever the route you choose, it will be a devilishly good time.

Fall-ify Your Food

While grilling, salads, and cocktails with umbrellas in them seem to spell out summer, fall foods are all about comfort. From slow cookers and soups to stews and casseroles, fall takes food to the next level of decadence. If you’re into the ease of the slow cooker and are a fan of Mexican food, this Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup from AllRecipes is as delicious as it is simple to make. Meat eaters and, in particular, red meat fans will love the flavors in this Balsamic Molasses Skirt Steak recipe. Chicken a la King is another meal that screams comfort food, and is the perfect entree to enjoy as you sit by the fire.

Take Your Entertainment Indoors

Fall weather can be absolutely gorgeous but it also occasionally brings with it the cooler temperatures and rain. This is a fun time of year to enjoy indoor entertainment. Buy some theater tickets, watch that movie you’ve wanted to see, or grab the family and go bowling. Of course, a group gathering to go watch football is never a bad idea either, as long as you are all rooting for the same team! If you’re looking to slow things down from the hectic summer pace, implement a “Sunday under the covers” rule. PJs all day is never a bad way to go.

We don’t know about you but there is something simply magical about autumn. Use this guide to gear up for fall activities and let the fun and games begin.
