Unfortunately, we enter the New Year going through another wave of COVID-19 infections. Due to the highly contagious Omicron variant, the number of patients in hospital for COVID in Los Angeles County has more than doubled since last month.

There have been more than 2 million cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County since the pandemic began, including nearly 46,000 new cases on a single day — January 9, 2022.

Fortunately, free COVID testing is available Mondays at the East Valley YMCA and Monday to Saturday at the Mid-Valley YMCA.

Pop-Up Vaccine Clinic at NoHo Metro Station

While the Omicron variant is reportedly less deadly than its predecessors,  it is far more contagious, so the odds of unvaccinated people becoming infected are even greater.  Those who were previously vaccinated and have received a booster shot are at far less risk of infection or of suffering serious symptoms if they do become infected.

To date, more than 10 million people in L.A. County have been vaccinated for COVID countywide, but the overwhelming majority of people whose COVID symptoms land them in the Intensive Care Unit are those who have not yet received their first dose.

City Councilmember Paul Krekorian, along with County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and State Assemblymember Luz Rivas, the NoHo Neighborhood Council, Pacoima Beautiful, 986 Pharmacy and Southern California Crossroads,  are sponsoring Saturday morning Pop-Up Vaccine Clinics at the North Hollywood Metro Station.  These Pop-Up Clinics vaccinated more than 750 people in the first four days.

The next pop-up clinics will be on Saturday, January 15 and February 5 from 9 AM to 12 PM.   Anyone can drop in for their free, effective COVID-19 vaccine, whether it’s your first shot, your second, or a booster.

You can save time by visiting myturn.ca.gov to make an appointment for your shot or contact Pacoima Beautiful at (818) 747-5159 if you have questions or need additional information.

If you can’t make it on Saturday and still need to get vaccinated, please visit the  L.A. County Department of Public Health website for more information on vaccine locations. The Department of Public Health posts up-to-date COVID information daily on their website.
