[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts theatre review of FOXY LADIES LOVE BOOGIE 70’s EXPLOSION! created and directed by Fritz Brekeller, musical direction by Joel Rutkowski and choreography by Ashley Wren Collins at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2024, June 9 – 24.
This brilliant show is a non-stop musical celebration of the 70s with some of the most iconic songs from what has to be the most eclectic and, in many ways, the most revolutionary decade both musically and politically. For women, the 70s changed everything.
Backed by an incredible band, these truly gifted singers and musicians take us on a journey through the 70s. Each song is another reminder of just how incredible the 70s were in terms of music and how many female singers and songwriters forged new paths for us all.
FOXY LADIES LOVE BOOGIE 70’s EXPLOSION! really is a stand-out show this Hollywood Fringe. It’s joyous, celebratory and genuinely uplifting. The power literally radiates from the voices of these incredible performers who magically morph from one fashion statement to another. I have absolutely no idea how they manage to incorporate that into this solid wall of sound….but they do!
By the end of the show, everyone was on their feet dancing, with the disco era and Donna Summer rounding out the decade and the show. What a way to sum it all up, powerful women taking their lives into their own hands finally…let’s hope we can keep it that way!
FOXY LADIES LOVE BOOGIE 70’s EXPLOSION! is an inspired show created and directed by Fritz Brekeller, musical direction by Joel Rutkowski and really phenomenal choreography by Ashley Wren Collins. But it would be nothing if not for the wonderful artists performing the songs and the musicians who back them.
Charlotte “Charlo” Crossley, Karla Mosley, Nina Gosiengfiao, Erin Ortegon, Toni Lorene Baker, Devan Watring and Tiffany Brevard. What an exceptional group of talented and beautiful women. Together they make this show, rock, swing and boogie!!
