Famous Hollywood Actors That Went To University
It’s strange to think of famous faces sitting in classrooms, staying up all night to finish their essays and running on caffeine. But most Hollywood stars have been to college or university at some point in their lives. So, next time you’re struggling through your UK essays, remember that you have to go through this to reach greatness! We’ve taken a closer look at what the stars studied and where they went to university – just in case you’re nosy like us.
This famous Hollywood hunk is best known for his roles in smash hit movies like Fight Club, Thelma & Louise and Seven. Throughout his career, he’s collected a whole stash of awards, including taking home the prestigious Academy Award for ‘Best Actor’ not once, but twice! So, where did Brad Pitt master his art? Not at university, apparently! The actor went to the University of Missouri to study journalism, although he never actually graduated as he dropped out just two credits short.
Prior to her successful acting career, which has seen her play roles in over forty movies including the Hunger Games series, Pitch Perfect and Spider-Man, Elizabeth Banks – you guessed it! – went to university. She studied at the University of Pennsylvania and had the full university experience- being part of a sorority and graduating as magna cum laude in 1996. Following this, she went onto further study and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in 1998 from the American Conservatory Theatre.
Jodie Foster had to wait over forty years for her star on the infamous Hollywood Walk of Fame, but she finally reached the level in 2016. She’s had a long and successful career, winning two ‘Best Actress’ Oscars for her parts in The Accused and The Silence of the Lambs. Foster’s career started young, with major role in Taxi Driver when she was just 12, but she still managed to attend Yale University and complete her bachelor’s degree in Literature – although she did have to take a semester off for her career.
Will Ferrell has made his career from being hilarious in hit movies like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Step Brothers and, of course, the family-favourite Christmas gem Elf. However, his degree choice was pretty unusual. The star studied a bachelor’s degree in ‘sports information’ at the University of Southern California way back in 1990. Apparently, he was quite the sportsman back then and was part of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
Best known for her role as bookish Hermione in the Harry Potter series, it seems that Emma Watson is every bit as intelligent in real life. She was part of the class of 2014 and studied English literature at Brown University in Rhode Island. She sometimes struggled with getting her fellow students to accept her as one of them, but that didn’t stop her from graduating with honours and even being part of the rowing team for a short period of time!
