Express to Success – for L.A.’s Homeless

***

The NoHo Mottos is: “NoHo is only as great as its people.”

Meet local resident and business owner Jack Witt. He was the past president of the Universal City North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and is the owner of Get Fit with Witt and Active World Journeys, plus he writes fun and informative travel blogs for NoHoArtsDistrict.com. Jack is always doing something to make North Hollywood a better place for everyone, and has been since 2000.  This year, Jack and friends are taking their tradition of service on Thanksgiving by ditching the food and focusing on moving…moving with the METRO.

Jack’s 2019 Thanksgiving program is Express to Success – for L.A.’s Homeless.

What made you decide to do this project?

I always like to do some type of volunteering on Thanksgiving. In the past that has included feeding the homeless; however, I noticed that they almost get too much food on that day. Everybody’s hearts are in the right place feeding them, but I thought why not do something to help the homeless that didn’t involve food.

Why TAP cards?

We’ll be raising money to load Los Angeles Metro TAP cards with day passes so the homeless can use them to go to job interviews, health care appointments, family and/or friends visits, etc. People can donate here on this GoFundMe page. Anything helps and currently a One Day Pass is $7, a 7-Day Pass is $25 and a 30-Day Pass is $100.

Will METRO donate the cards so the community can fill them?

Unfortunately, L.A. Metro is not going to donate the TAP cards. I was passed around through several departments but they were not receptive to the idea of donating the TAP cards for the project (And of course that drives me to make this happen in a big with or without their help!)

Where will you give these out?

One of my private clients is active with the homeless committee on a local neighborhood council and said we can hand them out at several access centers around the East Valley that homeless can go to each day. These centers are a good example of progress that local community and civic groups are making on the homeless issue.

Where can folks donate their extra cards?

People can help us out by dropping off used or unused TAP cards at NoHo Hair Salon 11049 W Magnolia Blvd #111, North Hollywood, CA 91601 from now and until Thanksgiving.

Can someone volunteer to help?

If anybody is interested in volunteering to hand out the cards on Thanksgiving just let me know. I do hope the project and outreach grows and then we can make it a quarterly or even monthly charity program. Currently it’s not a 501(c)(3) so donations are not tax deductible.

Thanks for doing good in the NoHo Arts District!
