[NoHo Arts District, CA] –  A NoHo Arts theatre review of Write Act Repertory’s second annual Cringe Festival 2024, produced by Write Act Repertory’s Producing Artistic Director John Lant along with Producer Darrin Yalacki running through October 27.

Five plays. One notion…to creep you out!

It is the of year time to frighten the pants off an audience…if you can. This is the second year Write Act Rep has summoned up the dark forces to do their worst and they are getting pretty good at it let me tell you!

From a brother scaring his sister with shadow monsters that are real to ghost stories amongst friends that take a turn for the deadly, to plays within plays, death within death. A woman finds the darker more murderous side to herself in a cabin in the woods on a weekend away with her boyfriend and lastly a highly entertaining zombie Romeo and Juliet with a terrible “Valley-esque” twist.

They are all extremely entertaining and the audience had a great time eating the free candy and pretending not to be unnerved. Write Act Rep always commits, they delight in whatever they do and their Cringe Fest is no exception!

The actors are wonderful and clearly having a lot of fun with the macabre, but they believed in every word, which is always the most important part of any production, even if it is a bit tongue in cheek.

My favourite? Probably the Romeo and Juliet, but then I’m a Shakespeare nut if I’m honest and it was a lovely take on these sulky Elizabethan teenagers. But all the plays are really funny as well as a bit creepy and that’s the point of Halloween isn’t it?!

So head on over to the Brickhouse Theatre and spend a little time in the great beyond with the lovely folks at Write Act Rep!!! Let’s support our local NoHo theatres!!!!
