Meet Catrina Q.
I’m a SoCal native and have been living, producing and performing in the NoHo Arts District since 2007. My background is in opera, classical ballet, and musical theatre. In addition to performing, I teach private voice, dance, acting, and group dance/fitness classes in L.A. and NYC. Over the years, CatrinaQ Performing Arts had had residencies at three local theatres, including The Sherry, NoHo London Music Hall, and, most recently, The Secret Rose. During the pandemic, I took our productions to Zoom and now we’re back live, doing shows in NoHo.
Tell us a bit more about the fundraiser.
CatrinaQ’s Star Whores is our most popular parody cabaret. With so many of our friends and community affected by the Los Angeles Wildfires, it made absolute sense to take to Zoom and do what we do best- make people laugh. We know that laughter and music can be so therapeutic. Doing our show on Zoom can reach so many more people than a live production but it also allows us to include my cast in New York City, all of whom have grown up or lived in L.A.
Who will benefit from the fundraiser?
Families for Black Lives, dedicated to the families of the Eaton Fires, and Pasadena Humane Society. We are currently looking into helping displaced Latine folk, as well.
Why the name CatrinaQ’s Star Whores?
I chose the name CatrinaQ’s Star Whores because we are pretty much walking in the footsteps of Fanny Brice- all dolled up but bawdy, loud, and silly. My company started as cabaret and then became caburlesque but we quickly discovered we were way more quirky and absurd than sexy.

Tell us more about what folks can expect from CatrinaQ’s Star Whores.
This show is a “telethon” so be prepared for colorful, loud, and senseless performances akin to cable access bliss. There will be singing, comedy, and maybe even some group dancing with the entire cast dressed as Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park- that’s our next live parody on March 15 at Madilyn Clark Studios.
As always, we’ve rewritten some classics to fit our unique style. “You Make Me Feel So Hung” is just one of the glorious tunes you’ll hear at the show.
Our shows are always a good time, whether you’re familiar with the theme or not. We are also a very diverse group of performers so we offer something for everyone. But the best part about virtual theatre is that you can enjoy it from your couch with a cocktail in paw.
This show has eight performers, including myself, and features most of my repertory cast:
Darla Eden @darla.the.unicorn
Britta Hoskins @brittahoskinsgonzalez
Jeff Hopkins @jeffreyhopkins
John Koladziej @johnnykola
Robert Long @rrlongii
Catrina Quintanilla @catrinaQ
Crystal Thompson @crystallovesdawn
Jessica Vaughn @jessica_vaughn_art

Do you have a dream project you’d like to work on?
My dream project is just to be able to do shows locally. I would love to find an affordable theatre in this district. Post-pandemic, the prices literally quadrupled on me so we’re shopping around and hoping we find the right fit soon.
What do you like about living in the NoHo Arts District?
The walkability to everything! The diners, the movies, the theatres, and my fave, NoBar!
What would you like to see more of?
I’d love to see more musical theatre out here. More singing, more live music outdoors. And I’d love to see more variety shows with that vaudeville, burlesque flavor.
