[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts theatre review of Theatre West’s Broadway Bound! A Love Letter to American Musical Theatre, created by John A. Goux, and directed by Victoria Lavan.
I could not imagine a more glorious way to celebrate music and theatre than for the very talented people of Theatre West to put together this wonderful selection of iconic Broadway Musical numbers. Theatre West is Los Angeles longest continuously running theatre…a perfect venue for songs from every era!
Broadway Bound! is a spectacular homage to all that is musical theatre, a non-stop, full-throttle production that thrills and entertains in the most wonderful way. I spent the entire show smiling from ear to ear, in fact. Don’t we all desperately need some joy right now? I know I do, and this perfectly curated group of songs gives us joy by the bucketload!
Included in the phenomenal selection are songs from Wicked, Hamilton, Pippin, Hairspray!, Camelot, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, Waitress, Funny Girl, Dreamgirls, Rent and on and on! Just when you thought you had heard your very favorite song, another one comes along and becomes your new favorite.
What I also loved about the Broadway Bound! selection was how they cleverly chose from every era of Broadway. Reminding us of the talent that created the timeless, beautiful and always relevant songs.
And then there are the performances! Wow. Everyone was absolutely brilliant and the songs each performer sang were perfectly suited to the incredible variety of vocal range and nuanced, heartfelt sound. I can’t tell you how much fun I had, and always do at these brilliant Theatre West musical events. I challenge anyone not to have a phenomenal time and to not feel inspired and full of joy by the end of the performance.
I wish Theatre West could do more of these concerts. John A. Goux and Victoria Lavan do a wonderful job of creating and directing the shows and the cast is just incredible! Bravo, bravo bravo!! More, please, Theatre West!!!
