A French musician, Sébastien Laloue, moves to Australia and makes a progressive rock album about a robot believing they have a soul. Quite a premise and believe me, with such an epic storyline, Brainsqueezed’s album “I Am Not a Robot” does not disappoint.
It’s a full on rock opera. Bold, beautifully produced, full walls of sound with gorgeous vocals from Laloue and Audrey Karrasch and Marcello Vieira.
“I Am Not a Robot” is a theme-heavy journey through one man’s mind seen through the eyes of a robot. As the album progresses you can feel the cinematic landscape of the music grow from track to gloriously bohemian track.
Floyd, Queen, Elton John, Roxy Music and on and on, the royalty of rock can be heard echoing through these mesmeric songs.
I loved it. Unapologetically picturesque, brazenly ambient, kitchy cool, with huge sounds lovingly arranged. It’s an ode to Jeff Lynn’s “War of The Worlds.” In fact, world in and of itself. Alien and still familiar. Which fits perfectly with a Frenchman living in Sidney, don’t you think?
I actually can’t seem to stop listening to it!!! These are perfect days to go big, so sick of feeling small…
