Boozy Birthday Brunch at Idle Hour NoHo

Birthday. Brunch. Booze. NoHo.

For my birthday, I chose to brunch at Idle Hour, NoHo Art District’s famously, refurbished barrel bar on a quiet section of Vineland Avenue.

Just a short walk from my apartment, I was eager to show my friends the bar’s striking architecture, tasty food and drink, and interesting history. (I’ve recently started personally boycotting Uber rides over $30.)

Founded in the 1940s, Idle Hour’s exterior — a giant-sized wooden barrel — was meant to attract drivers passing by and it still does to this day. In 2015, it was remodeled by the 1933 group, a restoration company that specializes in opening themed bars in the city’s various emerging neighborhoods.

I requested we sit on their back patio, which features a replica of the famous Bulldog Cafe that served Angelenos from 1928 to 1960. During the weekends, there’s also live music from 11 am-3 pm, the perfect ambiance for any champagne-filled Sunday Funday (Several renditions of ‘Happy Birthday’ may or may not have been requested).

I once read that Idle Hour’s owners thought it’d be “popular for local millennials priced out of high rent districts”. However, the majority of the “regulars” I meet there are from all over L.A.– from downtown to Los Feliz, and as far as the West side, which is a testament to the bar’s eclectic appeal.

So check out Idle Hour this weekend and tell ’em Trish sent you! I’ll bet my next boozy brunch you’ll be back! “
