ABOUT THE SHOW
Taking place in Victorian England in 1884, this gripping drama is based on the real-life events of Joseph Carey Merrick (John Merrick). The Elephant Man tells the story of a 19th century Englishman who was born with an unprecedented physical deformation that worsened with age. Forced from his home, and attacked on the streets of London, he found acceptance by joining the travelling freak shows of the Victorian era. When a renowned surgeon, Dr. Frederick Treves takes Merrick under his care, he is astonished by the brilliant mind, unshakable faith, and desire for love, hiding beneath this hooded mask. Merrick‘s astonishing and moving story is the basis for this Tony award-winning play.
