A NoHo arts music review of Aries Marquis’s “Experience” album.
Gorgeous soulful R&B/pop artist Aries Marquis’s “Experience” is a breath of fresh air! This Louisiana-based singer songwriter infuses his R&B songs with his gospel background, growing up singing in his mothers church choir and a couple of decades of hard work touring and songwriting and recording.
These songs are richly drawn, poetic and full of Aries’s sweet voice’s hard-won authenticity. Soulful pop, sung with all the depth of his gospel roots, Aries sing his heart out, with a vibrato to die for. I hear so much truth in his voice, and the arrangements are really wonderful.
Favorite song: “Phases.” Gorgeous!!! A triumphant soaring opus of a song. Cinematic and poignant, with gospel keys and 80s synth. But then the whole album is full of brilliant singles. Bright, hopeful, uplifting and very very catchy. It’s that soft kind of R&B that you just can’t shake.
Aries Marquis’s “Experience” is an album for lovers! I know I loved it!!
