An Interview with *EMMY WINNER FRAN MONTANO*

What happens when you mix the genius methods of Acting greats Lee Strasberg, Uta Hagen, Stella Adler & Sandy Meisner?

PURE LIQUID SILVER & GOLD TALENT!

And, that’s what Mr. Montano is on the look-out for!

If you’re looking to be an over-night movie star or wanting that high-profile agent to sign you NOW, then don’t waste your time nor Fran’s in his office. In his own words, “That’s offense to both the craft and industry.” He is a believer that, “Training is paramount for any Artist. You are never finished and you are always a work in progress. It takes a lot of work, so be prepared when you come to my class.”

I was ‘allowed’ to sit in on one of those classes and actually participate.

Simply put: YOU WILL SWEAT!

Sitting down briefly before the class, I had a chance to chat with him about his love and passion for his work as an acting educator/professor and coach. I will just say loudly, “HE LOVES BEING A TEACHER OF THE CRAFT!”

Waide Riddle- Hey, Fran, thank you for taking time before class to have a word with me… You’re from Utica, New York. What was your upbringing like?

Fran Montano– Very conventional. My family just didn’t embrace the arts. You were to have a job, a career, as a lawyer, go into business, be a doctor… Hey, I have a Bachelor’s in Design & Business.

(He chuckles)

WR– What possessed you to be an Actor?

His answer is firm & grounded.

FM– I fell in Love & I have always been passionately in Love with Acting.

WR– … I’m convinced… Is there a Life’s-event that has impacted you that helps in your acting studies?

FM– Yes. When my dad died … I was twenty. I completely shut-down emotionally.

WR– Did you personally have an acting teacher?

FM– Edward Kaye-Martin.

WR– What advice do you typically give young & not-so-young actors?

FM– … The Key to Happiness in Life is to learn how to do what you love to do & learn how to love what you have to do.

Wrap your mind around that answer, eh?

WR– In Life & in Acting, what are you most passionate about?

FM– Truth seeking & truth seekers.

WR– You went from a full-time actor who taught part time, to a full-time teacher… fill it in…

FM– I’m blessed. I’m lucky. I Love what I do.

WR– You are an Emmy award-winning acting coach. What an honor! Tell us about that…

FM– Emmy winner… Six Emmy nominations… in Children’s Programming for coaching and my work in the children’s educational program, “Computer Kids” … a television series on the Knowledge Television Network… in the NATAS Heartland Region.

WR– What’s your favorite color?

FM– Blue.

WR– What’s your favorite book/books?

FM– “The Fountainhead” by Ayn Rand. Controversial, yes. Excellent, yes. Informing, yes.

WR– What’s your favorite song? Songs?

FM– Favorite songs … “Your Song” by Elton John, “Don’t Worry ‘Bout A Thing” by Stevie Wonder, “Greatest Love of All” by George Benson. My favorite song is “My Life” by Billy Joel.

WR– Great selection! Favorite movies?

FM– “The Godfather”. All three. And, “It’s A Wonderful Life!” … Now, it’s just a few minutes before class. It’s time to get warmed up. You’re taking the class.

WR- Oh, OK, I am. Thank you for your time, Fran. It’s been a pleasure.

FM– It’s been exciting!
