Get yourself some food, drinks, and enjoy The Art Institute’s annual SPOTLIGHT Fashion Show with V.I.P seats overlooking NoHo’s cityscape from a rooftop! This annual fashion show will showcase jaw-dropping designs by a handpicked, massively talented, group of designers on Friday, June 10.
The show will be hosted by The Art Institute’s industry involved Fashion Club, and Fashion Styling students. Their mission is to, “share, explore, and inspire creativity in an engaging, fabulous, and fashionable way!” Catchy, we know.
The Fashion Club has engaged in a variety of industry fieldwork over the past year, working with fashion show producers, designers, models, and event coordinators to effectively organize and produce professional, successful events. Not only are these events produced to expose and showcase the designer’s talent and creativity, but also an opportunity for everyone attending, to network and engage in an industry environment.
The featured handpicked designers were interviewed by the Fashion Club members and were asked where their creativity originated from, and they provided a sneak peak of their collections; here is Malik Vivian on his inspirations and insight.
What inspired you for this upcoming show?
“I was inspired by textures, and minimal color usage.”
Do you have a favorite look? Why?
“So far my favorite look is high neck, functional, empire zip dress, simply because it unzips from an empire dress to a crop and a skirt. I am extremely proud of myself for figuring it out all on my own.”
If you had one word to describe your design style, what would it be?
What are you hoping to accomplish with this show?
“To produce and present a complete collection that is cohesive.”
Have you ever participated in other shows prior to this one? Can you give some examples and explain how they went?
“Yes, I have. I was one of the designers featured for “Art Heart,” during LA Fashion Week and it went well! I am looking forward to see the progression of my looks this upcoming show compared to the previous.”
What sparked the interest in fashion design?
“As a young boy I used to draw super heroes and didn’t understand why I loved it so much. After I was 10 years old I figured out my favorite part was designing the costumes. “
How has the overall process been for you?
“The process has been flowing pretty nicely, just a little busy, but overall no problems. Designing this line has been enjoyable so for sure.”
When do you graduate?
“I graduate in a year. I am excited and nervous but I know when it comes time to graduate I will be ready.”
Where do you hope to be after you graduate?
“Working in the industry as a tech/assistant designer.”
