Drawing inspiration from Mary Shelley’s enduring creation and the rich cinematic history of Frankenstein, the new work plunges audiences into a gothic world of resurrection and dangerous experimentation.
A New Chapter in the Frankenstein Legacy
First published anonymously in 1818, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus has inspired more than two centuries of adaptations and reinterpretations. Frankenstein: Resurrection does not seek to recreate Shelley’s novel onstage, but instead uses its characters, ideas and consequences as the foundation for a sequel.
Victor’s pursuit of conquering death has finally succeeded—but this time, he is the one brought back from the dead.
In Frankenstein: Resurrection, Victor Frankenstein awakens in a secret laboratory beneath the infamous Paris Morgue, resurrected by the brilliant Doctor Seraphina Pretorius. As Victor becomes convinced that the doctor’s sister Elsa is the reincarnation of his lost bride Elizabeth, he descends into a nightmare of obsession and madness.
Guided by the Monster through the Nine Circles of Hell, Victor is ultimately forced to confront a terrifying truth: the greatest monster he ever created may have been himself.

The musical is written and directed by Justin Meyer, co-owner of Nocturne Theatre and the writer behind original theatrical and immersive productions including Madame Scrooge: A Christmas Carol Musical, The Eaves: A Psychological Thriller, The Soul of New Orleans: A Musical Séance and House of Spirits: A Haunted Cocktail Soirée.
For Meyer, Frankenstein: Resurrection is both an homage to the stories that shaped the horror genre and an opportunity to push Frankenstein’s mythology into unexpected territory.
“My inspiration draws from the rich lineage of cinematic horror—from Hammer’s The Curse of Frankenstein and Universal’s Bride of Frankenstein to the stark science-fiction terror of The Thing from Another World,” said Meyer.
At the heart of the production, however, remains Mary Shelley and the questions first posed in her groundbreaking novel.
“Frankenstein brings together two of my greatest passions: the imaginative possibilities of science-fiction horror and my immense respect for Mary Shelley’s original novel, a story whose questions about creation, humanity, ambition and consequence remain as powerful today as ever,” Meyer said.
Rather than retelling Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein: Resurrection imagines what might come next—taking familiar characters and themes into an entirely new story.

The production features original music by Chris Thomas, an award-winning composer whose work spans film and television, including Lost and Haymaker; video games, including Epic Games’ Fortnite; as well as concert and theatrical works
His concert works have been heard internationally, including performances at Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl and the Sydney Opera House, with more recent orchestral works premiering in Brussels, Berlin and at Cité des Arts in Paris.
Thomas composed the Malheur Symphony, which was featured in his 2019 TEDx Talk, and has received honors including a Hollywood Music in Media Award and The American Prize in Composition for his work on Imagine Symphony Live.
Thomas previously collaborated with Meyer as composer of Madame Scrooge: A Christmas Carol Musical.
