[NoHo Arts District, CA] – Get in loser, we’re going to North Shore High. This summer, Wisteria Theater invites audiences to experience Mean Girls like you’ve never seen before in an immersive, nostalgia-filled production that transports theatergoers back to the early 2000s.
This isn’t just a trip back to the early 2000s – it’s a front-row seat to North Shore High.
About Mean Girls
The hit musical based on the beloved cult-classic film transforms the stage into the halls of North Shore High, where audiences become part of the story from the moment Freshman Orientation begins.
Based on the iconic 2004 film written by Tina Fey, Mean Girls follows Cady Heron as she navigates the treacherous social hierarchy of North Shore High School after moving from Africa to suburban Illinois. When Cady finds herself caught between a group of outcasts and the school’s infamous ruling clique, The Plastics, she learns firsthand that high school can be a jungle all its own.
Featuring music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and a book by Tina Fey, Mean Girls has become a modern musical theater phenomenon, delighting audiences with its sharp humor, catchy score, and heartfelt message about friendship, identity, and belonging.
Wisteria Theater’s production embraces the show’s early-2000s roots, fully immersing audiences in the Y2K era with nostalgic design, fashion, and cultural references that define a generation. From flip phones and mall culture to iconic teen movie moments, the production celebrates the era that made Mean Girls a beloved classic while bringing fresh energy and theatrical intimacy to the story.
Step into North Shore High’s Freshman Orientation and experience Mean Girls like you’ve never seen it before. Wisteria Theater’s intimate staging places audiences at the center of the story, making them feel like part of the student body as they navigate cliques, crushes, and the chaos of high school life.
“Mean Girls is more than just a comedy, it’s a beloved pop culture phenomenon,” says Renee Wylder, co-producer of Wisteria Theater. “For so many people, these characters and quotes are woven into their lives. We wanted audiences to feel like they’re actually walking into North Shore High on their first day of school. The early 2000s nostalgia is everywhere – from the fashion to the references. But what makes this production special is how close you are to the action. You’re not just watching Mean Girls; you’re experiencing it alongside Cady, Janis, Damian, and The Plastics.”
