In the wake of a personal tragedy, a young man takes a job at a state-run psychiatric residential facility.
Throughout the play, we follow the main character, Corey, as he encounters residents living in a constant state of crisis. The other residential staff, stretched thin but hardened by experience, manage care through procedure, humor, and strategic emotional distance. Corey, driven by his guilt, pushes against those institutional limits.
In an effort to rewrite his past, he develops a bond with a new client. When a violent escalation erupts, he is forced to confront the cost of his savior complex.
Blending dark comedy with emotional volatility, Sage Center interrogates the fragile line between care and control, asking what it means to help when saving someone may be impossible.
