Inspired by the infamous 1936 propaganda film Reefer Madness, the musical satirizes the hysteria and moral panic of the era with explosive comedy, over-the-top characters, and unforgettable musical numbers.
This production will feature Darcy Rose Byrnes, who portrayed Mary Lane in the recent Los Angeles revival of Reefer Madness, reprising her acclaimed performance in the role. Her return brings a thrilling connection to the celebrated LA staging of the cult musical.
Reefer Madness: The Musical transforms the cautionary tale of “the evils of marijuana” into a wildly entertaining theatrical experience filled with big laughs, bold performances, and a wink at the absurdity of fear-based propaganda.
Originally written by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney, the musical has become a cult sensation known for its outrageous humor, catchy songs, and biting social satire. The show follows a group of seemingly innocent teenagers whose lives spiral hilariously out of control after being exposed to the devilish influence of marijuana – at least according to the alarmist adults warning them.
Wisteria Theater’s production promises a fast-paced, immersive take on the beloved musical, embracing its campy roots while delivering high-energy performances and musical theater spectacle.
