79 and 1/2 is Mitch Feinstein’s fourth solo show. My Father’s Eyes, For Love or Money and Road to Masada Anti Semitism and Me were the first installments of his continuing journey. This play feels the most personal in many ways. It deals with what we all must eventually face – aging and all the elements of it. But Mitch has chosen humor as his guide through the inevitable. And the results of his choice are an absolutely hilarious show full of pathos, nuance and truth.
Mitch guides us with his irrepressible creative spirit through the trials and tribulations of his particular version of aging. His excessively dry wit comments on every conceivable aspect of being old and getting older.
What all of us will face and perhaps dread a little, he takes in his stride and plays for perfect laughs, reminding us all not to take ourselves too seriously and to find a way to enjoy the process. Because the alternative to aging is, well, not being around at all!
Mitch Feinstein is a fascinating man. A father, a husband and a lawyer for many years. When he retired, he decided to finally pursue his love of theatre, writing and acting and has made his mark in all three. Solos shows are the perfect combination of all his talents and he makes the most of the opportunity.
Funny, compelling and poignant, 79 and 1/2 is just as brilliant as his first two solo shows but allows his warmth and empathy to lead the way. It’s the show that gives us more Mitch than ever, and what a brilliant talent he is!
We will have to see if Mitch has more stories to tell, but if not, 79 and 1/2 is the perfect swan song.
