[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts theatre review of Write Act Repertory’s Pieces of December (Holiday Express 2025) – a collection of six world premiere one-act plays of the holiday season written by various Write Act Repertory writers, running December 6-21.

Every single year, I look forward to the Christmas-themed shows around Los Angeles. Call me corny…and you’d be right. But I love almost everything about Christmas, bar the credit card bills.

Write Act Rep has been pulling together playwrights and actors for as long as I can remember to celebrate, make us laugh, and give us something to think about at this time of year. This year’s offerings of brand-new one-act plays are as wonderful as ever. I really don’t know how they do this, every year just gets better and better!

Six one-act short plays covering almost anything you can imagine could happen at Christmas, populated by highly talented actors having fun with themes as varied as dating at 35,000 feet, obnoxious Christmas trees with far too many opinions, playful boxing days with the family, Angelic wish fulfillments, tasteless neighborly decorating, and reconnecting with old friends.

Every play is funny and heartfelt, filled with characters that we can all recognise in our own lives and a few that we are probably glad we don’t! These plays are wonderfully entertaining and the performances are absolutely brilliant! I am sure it’s not just my cheerful holiday outlook when I say that this year’s Christmas extravaganza is better than ever!

We are so lucky to still have the Brickhouse Theatre in NoHo, especially since we have sadly lost so many stages. I love this small and characterful theatre tucked into our NoHo neighborhood. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, and Write Act Rep always makes excellent use of its magic.

Pieces of December (Holiday Express 2025) is a wildly entertaining selection of stories, and I highly recommend it to all! We are already so close to Christmas and I can hardly believe this year is almost over. Why not spend an evening with Write Act Rep and their wonderful cast of characters?

Theatre is truly the best way to bring us all together. The last place left where we can be sure that our humanity connects to each other while we share some laughs, wipe away some tears, and be present with each other appreciating the art of our own humanity.

This wonderful group of plays produced by Artistic Director John Lant with Producer Darrin Yalacki only runs through the 21st of December, so don’t dawdle!!! Make some memories with your besties and your family in the heart of NoHo!
