Girlschool: Bringing Gender Equality to Center Stage February 2 – 4 at L.A.’s Bootleg Theatre.
The Spotify Binge: you look for one artist, it sucks you in, but then it gives you so many delights along the way.
While on a recent Spotify Binge we found the link to Girlschool and clicked and clicked and clicked. We need this right now.
GIRLSCHOOL is a Los Angeles-based music and ideas festival and intentional community that celebrates and connects women-identified artists, leaders, and voices. Founded by former classically-trained violinist Anna Bulbrook (band member, the Airborne Toxic Event; violinist, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Beyoncé’s LEMONADE, Kanye West, Vampire Weekend, and more) in response to how few women she saw onstage in the alternative rock and festival worlds, GIRLSCHOOL has grown into an empowering and interdisciplinary network of people who believe that our light only shines more brightly together. A portion of the proceeds from every ticketed GIRLSCHOOL event benefits a girl-positive 501c3.
Since it came to be in 2016, Girlschool has held two annual sold-out, women-led, three-day music and ideas festivals in Los Angeles, and in 2017 partnered with TOMS to bring a third at-capacity capsule festival to SXSW in March ’17. In addition, Girlschool works with different partners throughout the year to present creative, interdisciplinary women-forward experiences on the forefront of culture.
