The Eight Reindeer Monologues

Crown City Theatre, 11031 Camarillo St., North Hollywood, 91602

“The Eight Reindeer Monologues” is the darkest of comedic Christmas-themed plays.

It is truly adults only, and not just for the language, but for the content, too.  Saying that, it is very funny and done well, as these lovely Crown City actors have, it is something unique and hilarious…and dark.

The play is set in The Reindeers quarters at the North Pole where one by one they turn to the audience and give their own versions of the truth about Santa, Mrs Clause and the scandalous stories surrounding their abusive behavior and their criminal tendencies…I told you, it’s dark!

It’s very cleverly staged and each actor takes their individual moments very seriously, which is why it works so well I think.  It’s a fascinating take on a legend.  What if it were all true, but everything you thought you knew was wrong and the reality of it was warped into the same kind of sick tragedies in our own real world right now?  If someone who held the trust of so many innocents could be the worst kind of criminal, then what?  Where would we go from here?  Interesting and sad, funny and boldly original, and great material for great actors…but dark, very, very dark.

It’s not a long run, so if you want to get your head spun around then head on down to Crown City before December 23rd.
