[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts theatre review of Theatre West’s “So Many Stars,” directed by Victoria Lavan, produced by Dina Morrone, with music direction by James Lent, and running through December 10.

For the past three years the very clever people at Theatre West, under the moderation of the wonderful Victoria Lavan, have been producing a kind of cabaret spectacular. A musical extravaganza, if you will. A celebration of seasonal songs, old and new with a cast of enthusiastic and very talented vocalists.

It’s a fabulous way to start the holiday season at one of my favorite theatres in Los Angeles, and the longest continuously running professional theatre. With a fantastic live band, the music never stops. One glorious song after another, keeping our spirits bright and our toes tapping. There are love songs and Christmas songs and slow smoochy songs and roof-raising songs. Songs of light and songs of healing and peace and hope. But none of this would be possible without the incredible talents of these lovely singers, dressing in their gorgeous sequins and harmonizing their hearts out.

“So Many Stars” is a really wonderfully put-together show. Everything flows beautifully and the performers come and go onstage with every song they sing, in groups and alone and dazzling us with their synchronicity and pizzazz.

I was absolutely blown away and grinning ear to ear by the end of it! So if their goal is to make their audience dance in their seats and leave singing their favorite songs…then they have a success on their hands! I know everyone around me felt the same.

Christmas isn’t Christmas without music, and it’s safe to say that Theatre West’s year wouldn’t be complete without this annual musical event! Bravo to them for continuing this heartfelt tradition of song!

If, like me, you can’t wait to dust off your Christmas albums, then “So Many Stars” is your perfect holiday show…start your own tradition and bring your friends and family!

“So Many Stars” only runs through December 10th on Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm, so don’t dawdle!
