About The (Mostly) True Story of a Common Scold
At the dawn of the Jackson administration, Anne Royall, America’s first female journalist, wages a personal war in print against evangelicals who she felt were trying to subvert the U.S. Constitution and turn America into a Christian nation. They toppled her stagecoach, harassed her at her Washington, D.C. home as she convalesced and ultimately, in a bid to silence her, had her arrested. Anne remained steadfast, surviving the ordeal with her life – and her resolve to defend what she loved about the new nation – intact.

MIKE TEVERBAUGH – Playwright
Mike Teverbaugh has written for television for the last 30-plus years (The Drew Carey Show, Better Off Ted, Last Man Standing, and many others), working on most of those shows with his wife and oft-times writing partner, Linda Teverbaugh. He started writing plays during the pandemic, and since then his work has been performed in New York, London, Virginia, Colorado, Arizona (winning the Northern Arizona Playwriting Showcase), Ohio (FutureFest finalist) and various theaters in Southern California. This play, The (Mostly) True Story of a Common Scold, won the international New Works of Merit Competition. Mike began his working life editing and writing for newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, which explains his affinity for the story of Anne Royall, America’s first female journalist.
