[NoHo Arts District, CA] – Soft Animal, written and performed by George Aivaliotis (Just For Laughs New Face of Comedy) and directed by Rachel Troy (Winner of Top of Hollywood Fringe 2024), heads to the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2025.
About Soft Animal
Soft Animal is a psychedelic clown odyssey through the history of life on Earth—from primordial goo to late-stage capitalism. Aivaliotis shape-shifts across time, species, and existential breakdowns in this absurd, heartfelt solo show that asks: how did we get here, and how do we keep going?
Part zoo, part existential meltdown, Soft Animal combines clown, biology, and interactive comedy to explore survival, interdependence, and the horror and beauty of being alive. Think Darwin meets Jim Carrey meets a serotonin-deficient octopus.
If you’ve never tried psychedelics, try microdosing the mind of George Aivaliotis. Side effects may include laughter, childlike wonder, and crying in a good way.
The Soft Animal Team
George This is George’s third original solo show following How To Be a Man and Early Man, which have toured through Hollywood Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe, and strange basements across the country. In 2019, he was named a New Face of Comedy by the Just For Laughs Festival. He recently voiced a national campaign for Apple and appeared in work for Nickelodeon and Comedy Central.
Rachel Troy is an actor, director, comedian, and clinical therapist based in Los Angeles and New York. She has studied acting for over a decade at The Lee Strasberg School in New York City and was also trained at The Moscow Art Theater in Russia. Comedy training includes The Groundling School and The Idiot Workshop here in LA, as well as a lifetime of experience as her mother’s daughter, who is possibly the greatest gift she received from the comedy Gods.
Rachel has worked on a number of experimental theater projects in NYC, including as an assistant to the choreographer for Punch Drunk’s world-renowned Sleep No More, as well as Radiohole’s production of Frankenstein at The Kitchen. Recently, Rachel premiered a new work entitled Rachel und Ich, Rachel und Ich (Lulu Obermayer with Rachel Troy) developed under the artistic direction of Obermayer, premiered in Munich in January 2025 and has been touring throughout Germany this year.
Rachel works as a trauma therapist, which serves as a nice counterbalance to her secret life in comedy, performing clown bits and characters in front of anyone who will watch.
