[NoHo Arts District, CA] – Jamar Gilbert brings his riveting one-man show, Black and Blue, to the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2025.
What Does It Mean to Be Black in America? One Man. Four Voices. No Easy Answers.
About Black and Blue
Step into the mind of Jamar Gilbert in Black and Blue—a raw, soul-shaking, and darkly humorous one-man show premiering this June at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
Written and performed by Gilbert, Black and Blue isn’t just a performance—it’s an emotional interrogation. Through four unforgettable characters, he wrestles with one haunting question: Is there a right way to be Black in America? From a fiery radical to a weary police officer, from an old-school traditionalist to an innocent Black boy just learning how the world works, Gilbert morphs through perspectives that are rarely in harmony, yet equally rooted in truth.
Set against the backdrop of a country that demands answers while silencing the questioners, Black and Blue invites audiences into the heart of contradiction, rage, tenderness, survival, and identity.
“It’s not about easy answers. It’s about the freedom of self-examination and the adventure of being brutally honest with yourself.”
With stunning emotional range, razor-sharp writing, and a performance that crackles with urgency, Black and Blue is both a personal exorcism and a universal reckoning. It’s theater that dares to ask what many are afraid to admit—even to themselves.
Come for the artistry. Stay for the truth. Leave changed.
