Have a passport? You probably don’t know the surprising and powerful history behind it.
You’re invited to a free talk and discussion on Zoom with Patrick Bixby on Wed, Dec 14 at 6 PM.
The surprising global history of an indispensable document, the passport, has shaped art, thought, and human experience while helping to define our modern world. Patrick will lead us on a journey from pharaonic Egypt and Han-dynasty China to the passports of artists and intellectuals and the passport controls and crowded refugee camps of today. He’ll expose the innocent-looking passport as both an instrument of personal freedom and a tool of government surveillance powerful enough to define our very humanity.
LICENSE TO TRAVEL: The Cultural History of the Passport is hosted online by the North Hollywood Amelia Earhart Regional Library, and presented by the Friends of the North Hollywood Library, with support from the Valley Plaza Branch Library.
