Show Info The
Last Days of Judas Iscariot
by Stephen Adly Guirgis
Directed by Aliah Whitmore
Featuring
James Whitmore, Jr.
and Aliah
Whitmore, son and
granddaughter of James
Whitmore, the man for whom
the theatre is named.
Set in Hope - an area of
downtown Purgatory - The
Last Days of Judas Iscariot
dares us to take another
look at the fate of
history's most notable
sinner. With testifying
witnesses ranging from
Mother Theresa to Sigmund
Freud to Pontius Pilate,
this darkly-comedic
courtroom drama questions
widely held beliefs about
the character of Judas, his
relationship with Jesus and
the Apostles, and his
eventual judgment.
One of this generation's
most gifted playwrights,
Stephen Adly Guirgis
unabashedly tackles some of
the world's tough
philosophical questions
while finding poetry in the
"street talk" vernacular of
the everyday common man.
"The Last Days of Judas
Iscariot" ranks high among
Guirgis' award-winning
works, which include "Jesus
Hopped the A Train" and "Our
Lady of 121st Street." His
plays have delighted
audiences around the globe,
and will continue to do so
for many years to come.

The Porters of Hellsgate are
proud to open their second
season with William
Shakespeare's Much Ado About
Nothing. Set in 1946, as the
boys return from war, we can
watch with wonder as war
thoughts left vacant are
turned to love. Lead by the
famously sharp wit of
Benedick and Beatrice and
their merry war, plots
arise, vows are broken, but
love, of course, wins the
day.
The Porters, as always,
intend to present
Shakespeare for
Shakespeare's sake, without
ulterior motives or
political bias.
"There's nothing worse
than watching a Shakespeare
play performed badly.
Conversely, witnessing
Shakespeare played out by an
inspired cast is not only a
wonderful theatre experience
but also a celebration of
the genius of this master
wordsmith. Most of the
bard's work performed in
L.A. falls somewhere in the
middle. So it is a
refreshing change to see one
of his most dramatic works
done so well here."

Caesar)
