LADY

It may not be sexy, and there's not much money, but the west coast premiere of Craig Wright's politically charged play at The Road Theatre Company definitely gets down and dirty....More>>

Show Info LADY
By Craig Wright
Directed by Scott Allan Smith
Starring Shawn Michael Patrick, Matt Kirkwood and Mark Doerr

Deep in the woods of downstate Illinois, three boyhood friends come together on a hunting trip. Now middle aged and on separate paths, they find that the common thread of memory is being stretched to the breaking point. Can the war in Iraq reach even these secluded woods and destroy their friendship forever?

The production examines the reopening of old wounds as three friends struggle with their memories, their beliefs and their humanity in a world where politics is pervasive, reaching far beyond the White House and the Iraqi frontlines and seeping into the woods of downstate Illinois.

As evidence of the play's significance in our current political climate, The Road Theatre Company is one of three regional theaters producing Wright's play this election year - The Asolo Repertory Theatre's production in Sarasota opens in May and Stages Repertory Theatre's production in Houston opens later this month.

Wright said, "I'm very excited that LADY will have its West Coast premiere at The Road. They're a proven company with a long history of bringing new work to L.A. audiences. I'm proud to be associated with them."

With a reputation for provocative, relevant work, award-winning playwright/screenwriter Craig Wright is best known in the theater community for his award-winning plays The Pavilion, Recent Tragic Events, Orange Flower Water, Grace, Melissa Arctic, Main Street, Molly's Delicious, and numerous others. The Pavilion was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize as well as the American Theatre Critics' Association's Best New Play Award. Recent Tragic Events won an ATCA Best New Play Citation Award in 2002. Melissa Arctic won the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play. Mr. Wright's television writing debut was on the HBO series Six Feet Under, for which he received an Emmy nomination. He has also written and produced the popular television shows Brothers and Sisters, Lost, and is the creator of Dirty, Sexy, Money.
