Women In Theatre-was established in 1978 to increase involvement and provide opportunities in the live theatrical arts for women in the greater Los Angeles area. Membership is open to both men and women. WIT’s stated purpose is to be a performance, education, networking, service and outreach organization and is a 501 c 3. The organization strives to build programs for all those objectives and to expand and build members talents and opportunities via luncheons with guest speakers, a writers’ reading series, socials, outreach, and support for community programs. WIT recently established a youth scholarship for the theatrical arts.
Membership
Members include those who have a passion for the live theatrical arts and have an interest for pursuing that on stage, behind the scenes and even in the audience. WIT's current stated purpose is to nurture and empower both those emerging and established in the theatre arts.
Our members include performers, techs, directors, educators, reviewers and more, all of whom encourage interest in the preservation and development of live theatre in various forms. Red Carpet Awards
Bonnie Franklin tops the list of awardees for Women in Theatre’s fifth annual Red Carpet Awards to be held Saturday October 18 at The Castaway in Burbank starting at noon. The actress is perhaps best known for her Emmy ® nominated role as Ann Romano on the long-running series “One Day at a Time, “ but her first love is theatre. She has an extensive theatrical resume both onstage and behind the scenes.

The Red Carpet Ceremony is held in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month and includes a luncheon, entertainment and awards presentation. Awardees are selected via a nomination process that is open to the community. Both individuals and organizations can be nominated for their extensive support and involvement in the live theatrical arts in our area. This applies creatively, philanthropically, administratively, educationally, promotionally and more in a diverse range of theatrical arts , not only to address staged plays but including magic, music, poetry, puppetry, comedy and other creative experiences thus demonstrating the rich diversity and talents of the live theatrical arts.
