As Sally Bowles in the Pierce College production of “Cabaret”, Michelle Hallbauer executes her most nimble moves in scenes of pure dialogue, without musical accompaniment. When speaking to Cliff Bradshaw (Michael Beck), Sally’s overmatched lover, Hallbauer at various times spins, struts, strides and twirls. For this Sally, not only is all the world a stage, she intends to use every inch of it.
It's a hit! "Cabaret," the 1966 Broadway musical sensation and film adaptation that has won Tony's and Oscars respectively is here in North Hollywood. Presented by The Crown City Theatre, Cabaret is a MUST SEE! Come on, it's Cabaret, what else can I say. Okay, I suppose if you are looking for a review you should get more than this so let me accommodate you.
On Sunday September 11 Cristina and Matthew Ballestero, real-life siblings, presented their first cabaret Sibling Rivalry @ Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's to a packed house of screaming fans. Both Cristina and Matthew were in LA's Next Great Stage Star 2011 and came exceedingly to close to being runners-up. Each has a distinct personality and an enormous talent...and those talents are every bit as different as their personas. Combined, there was enough energy to blow the roof off Vitello's.
On Sunday March 20 Broadway's Young Cossette of Les Mis pretty Demaree Alexander brought her cabaret act to Sterling's Upstairs @ Vitello's with a bevy of talented guests on board. This young lady has a background not only in Broadway pop music but also in country; consequently, she nicely essayed a variety of musical styles alone and in duets with Kevin Odekirk, Dee Dee Magno-Hall, Jess Buda, Maura Hanlon Smith and brother Braden Danner. It was a lovely laid-back evening with Alexander's cute, easy going delivery and not without some exciting musical surprises.
