“Bare Naked Angels” is the culmination of four months' work by a dedicated and ambitious group of actors.
The pieces they present are self-written, autobiographical and astonishingly moving. They cover subjects as raw and diverse as rape, heartbreak, mental illness and tremendous loss. But it’s not all sadness. Many of the stories provide ample evidence of the lightness of the human spirit and are funny and beautifully told.
I love solo work, but the very clever folks at the Actors Workout Studio have developed a particularly creative way of intertwining these stories. Weaving them skillfully together so that one person's story is made more relevant and more profound by the telling of another person's. They form a conversation, staged and played out by the actors themselves.
These actors and writers artfully support each other, in subject, in emotion and, quite literally, as they play parts in each other's stories and flit in and out of the spaces they have formed by standing up, breathing deeply in and speaking their truths.
This work is important to support. Fledgeling writers finding their voices, actors bravely and proudly becoming who they mean to be in front of our very eyes. Short plays are the lifeblood of the vitally important small theatre. They are fractions, they are moments and they give precious glimpses of the whole, but then sometimes that is all we need to witness to understand and to connect and to truly know each other…bravo!! Loved it.
It’s a short run! So hurry up and get your tickets…http://www.actorsworkout.com
