It isn’t every day that we are fortunate to see the world premiere of a new comedy, and it’s even less frequent that we get to see a GREAT world premiere comedy. WITHOUT ANNETTE is that great World Premiere Comedy.

Set in an improv class, we meet a variety of characters with each of them sharing with us their vulnerabilities and reasons for being in the class, but most of the time we fall off our seats with hysterical laughter. Because this is an actual improv class environment, the audience becomes part of the class, and audience participation is part of the fun.

This is a double-cast play, and the night I saw the show the following actors performed: Mark Beltzman as Sam Wasserman, Tara Ciabattoni as Jeanette Parker, Jason Frankovitz as Billy Bingo, Kersten Haile as Jackie Sheridan, Angie Jaree as Donna De Salles, Julia Morizawa as Libby Martinson, Charlie Mount as Hogan Connely, Gary Robinson as CJ Carter, Matthew Shane as Kyle Peterson, Andrew Villarreal as Trevor Green, and Timothy Walker as Michael Gaines.

Kersten Haile and Julia Morizawa do an amazing skit that every woman will identify with. And Andrew Villarreal as Trevor Green could have his own sitcom right now. Hilarious, natural and a definite standout. Each and every actor BRINGS IT. They are entertaining, lively and full of energy and talent, and bring this creative play, with wonderful writing, to life.

Hope Juber and Jeff Doucette make a great writing team, and Jeff Doucette has expertly directed this fun play and has permitted the actors to improvise from their character’s point of view.. We are treated to the amazing music of Grammy-winning guitarist Laurence Juber, both pre-show, and playing live during the show. How fantastic is that!!! You will want to sing along and enjoy every minute.

Go see this play, and if possible with both casts. Each performance has a combination of scripted and improv material, and will be ever so slightly different from each other, so seeing it several times is a definite MUST SEE. The key to good comedy is great timing, and WITHOUT ANNETTE has great timing. It also has great actors, great writing, great music, and is an evening of laughter and fun. You can’t ask for more than that.
