To cap off a really successful year, The Group Rep at the Lonny Chapman Theatre gives us the extremely funny and suspenseful SHERLOCK’S LAST CASE, written by Charles Marowitz and directed by Larry Eisenberg.

The stories of Sherlock Holmes written by Conan Doyle are legendary, and we are fortunate to have a parody of those mysteries with SHERLOCK’S LAST CASE. The drawing room of 221B Baker Street, London, is the setting with the inconsiderate and egotistical Holmes (Chris Winfield) receiving a threatening letter from Simeon Moriarty, the son of the deceased and evil Professor Moriarty. When a second death threat letter is received, and Dr. Watson (expertly portrayed by Bert Emmett completely capturing Watson) is found tied up in the closet, Holmes realizes (in his always calm manner) the severity of the situation. This is just the beginning of a play with lots of twists and turns, abundant suspense, loads of laughs, and tons of fun.

We have Lisa Moriarty (Allison King bringing life to Lisa) who is Simeon’s twin sister, Mrs. Hudson (Holmes housekeeper), wonderfully played by Hersha Parady, and Inspector Lestrade (Patrick Burke with loads of comedic flair) to round out our cast of characters. I can’t give away any more of the plot. It just wouldn’t be fair to you as the audience. I want you to enjoy watching the story unfold.

Well directed by Larry Eisenberg, with the usual terrific sets by Chris Winfield, lighting by Kim Smith, great costumes by Emily Doyle, all the elements are here.

This is a thoroughly entertaining evening of theatre. Take a break from all the Christmas faire our there. If you see one show this holiday season, SHERLOCK’S LAST CASE is the one to see. Have fun and hold onto your seats.

May your Holidays be filled with family, friends, love and joy. What a great year it has been for theatre! Onward to 2013, and a New Year of fabulous theatre in the NoHo Arts District.
