In this world premiere comedy, Resolving Hedda, Ibsen's characters from Hedda Gabler, who know the play insanely well after centuries of performances, try desperately to keep the play afloat. At the same time Hedda, just as desperately, tries to sabotage the plot in order to avoid her demise. The misadventures that ensue continue to raise the stakes of hilarity to a fevered pitch. And if Hedda succeeds in her quest to live, will this classic theatrical work ever be performed again?
“This is American playwright Jon Klein’s 4th play at the Victory in 30 years.(T Bone ‘N Weasel, Suggestibility, Wishing Well, and now Resolving Hedda). We’ve always enjoyed working with Jon. He has a rare comedic sensibility - his own unique voice” says director, Maria Gobetti. She continued:” I’d say the style of this piece is Pirandello meets the Marx Brothers!” When asked: Klein said:” "I personally believe Ibsen's Hedda Gabler to be one of the most superbly executed and important plays ever written. But Hedda herself seems to have a different point of view."
“In this terrific cast, Hedda will be played by Kimberly Alexander,” says director Maria Gobetti. “This is our 3rd collaboration and she’ll be wonderful as the character of Hedda, who no longer wants to die night after night.” Kimberly was last seen in The Engine of Our Ruin at the Victory, for which she was nominated for a Stage Raw Best Supporting Actress award.
Her husband, George is played by Ben Atkinson, who is making his debut at The Victory after a stint in As You Like It with The Antaeus Theatre Company. He’s also appeared in An Actor’s Carol (Hi-Desert Playhouse); Vintage Box (Stage Against the Machine) among others.
Alyce Heath plays Aunt Julia. has been seen in commercials, movies (Hallmark and others) and on stage at The Victory, the Group Rep Theater, Theatre, Company of Angels and, back in the day, Los Angeles Actors Theater. She is a member of the Victory Theatre's Bare Bones Company.
Marisa Van Den Borre as Thea has played roles such as Phoebe in Shakespeare's As You Like It and Eleanor in Charles L. Mee's Big Love…which have deepened her experience with both classic and modern pieces and their characters. Additionally, one of her career highlights to date, was directing a one woman show that was part of the Hollywood Fringe.
Tom Ormeny is the nefarious Judge Brack, and while working in TV/Film hasn’t performed a role onstage at the Victory in 4 years because he is one of the busy Artistic Co-Directors of the theater. Most recently he appeared in the critically acclaimed Old Glory, My Old Friends and Broken Glass. Other theatre acting credits include: On the Money, Haunted Wilderness, Escape from Happiness, Meet the Wilsons and Oleanna. He’s happy to return to the stage in this role.
Chad Coe as Eilert is making his Victory Theatre debut. He is just coming off the Ovation recommended West Coast Premiere of The Lyons at The Road Theatre. Chad was in the original cast of The Rose and the Rime at The Kennedy Center. His Los Angeles theatre credits include: Dracula Directed by Ken Sawyer, World Premieres of The Red Room Directed James Mellon and The Light Bulb w/ Stephanie Powers.
Sean Spencer rounds out the cast as the Stagehand. Since graduating from the New York Film Academy in Burbank where he would earn his bachelor’s degree in the finer arts of acting, he has been involved in multiple productions both on and off the stage such as Watson in Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure Directed by Gene Putnam. He hopes to further sharpen his skills by auditioning for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
