Hidden Agendas, Alliances and Secret Liaisons Rise to the Surface in this World Premiere Comedy coming September 28!

Produced by Maria Gobetti, Katie Witkowski
In “Showpony,” a boutique advertising agency run by African American women merges with a larger, Fortune 500 company. The mostly white employees from the larger agency begin uttering unconsciously racist and gender micro-aggressions. Tensions build as aggressions move into overt racism and misogyny. Both African American and white women fight back. Hidden agendas, alliances and liaisons rise to the surface—in both fierce and fiercely funny ways.
The women at a large NY ad agency have the opportunity to revise an ad campaign because none of their male cohorts show up for the meeting. During the process they must confront their beliefs about misogyny and gender bias, as well as their own unconscious racism. Once the campaign is pitched, hidden agendas, alliances and liaisons rise to the surface.
In “SHOWPONY” five working women come to some real understanding of their separate cultures, through their common womanhood. Sionne Elise, Chelsi Stancil, Lizzy Kimball, Elle Vernee, Krystel Roche, star the these five women, with Marshall McCabestands as the lone male in the cast.
"As soon as I read this play, I knew the Victory wanted to produce it," says director Tom Ormeny. "The wit and ambitions of the women who are trying to break through the glass ceiling and out of the daily prejudices need support. I want audience members to relate to these characters and to start conversations about these issues. We need that now. We need to be able to talk to each other. We need to be able to laugh." Opens September 28, 2018 previews take place on September 21, 22 and 23. Tickets: $24-$34, previews $20 Tickets & Info: 818-841-5421
