Don’t Hug Me Productions presents the world premiere musical comedy Don’t Hug Me, We’re Family, book and lyrics by Phil Olson, music by Paul Olson, directed by Doug Engalla, and choreography by Michele Bernath. The host of a radio show devoted entirely to ice fishing which has no listeners loses his sole advertiser, while his wife, popular host of a book show, has all the listeners and advertisers. Problems multiply for the competitive couple, when Italians from Brooklyn come to the rural town, buy the radio station and a hotel, and turn the lives of the locals upside down. Based on the Award-Winning, Smash Hit Play, Crappie Talk, the new musical boasts 14 original songs and 12 North Woods radio jingles.
Set in a little north woods Minnesota bar, Gunner Johnson is the host of a radio show called, "Crappie Talk," devoted entirely to ice fishing for Crappies. Gunner has no listeners, so he loses his only advertiser, Kanute’s Bait Mart and Deer Petting Farm. Gunner’s wife, Clara, hosts "Book Beat." She has all the listeners, and all the advertisers. Gunner has issues with that. Problems escalate for the competitive couple, and are compounded when two, fish-out-of-water, Brooklyn Italians come to the rural Minnesota town, buy the radio station and a hotel, and turn everything on its ear.
The cast features Truett Jean Butler, Andrew Carter, Michael Cortez, Christina Gardner, Allison Hawkstone, David Pluebell and Micky Shiloah.
Design and production crew includes Chris Winfield (Set Design) and Andrew "Sashi" Peterson (Stage Manager).
Don’t Hug Me, Were Family is the sixth in the Don’t Hug Me franchise of musical comedies. The previous five "Don't Hug Me-s" have had over 200 productions around the U.S. and are published by Samuel French.
