Each actor is captivating in their own right, and they're all clearly having fun with Neubauer's over-the-top material. Charlotte Bjornbak’s performance as Herman, the shifty, wannabe-boy cousin was particularly hilarious. And Sebastian Munoz's, man-servant, Henry, shines, especially during the ridiculous boy-on-boy pillow-fight scene.
MELODRAMA has something for the whole family, if that family is over 18 and Oedipal friendly: gender bending that would make Gumby blush; pillow and pickle fights; titillating flashbacks; and homage to Raymond Chandler, Billy Wilder, and Bono. Think of it as Shakespeare on crack..
The musical interludes make for appropriately jolting scene transitions. Indeed, MELODRAMA is not for the faint of heart. You will be shocked, amused, and likely offended, but just remember, nobody's perfect.
