Up and Coming Sport of Axe Throwing Has Officially Arrived to North Hollywood!
LA AX, the largest Location in North America will offer axe throwing, training, refreshments, leagues, events and excellent competition. They will officially open and introduce the City of Angels to axe throwing on Friday, October 5.
Impossibly fun and even a little cathartic, competitive axe throwing is exactly what it sounds like. Individuals hurl axes at wooden targets for both recreation and sport. Competitive axe throwing has been growing in popularity over the past few years, and with the grand opening of LA AX, the sport has officially arrived as a mainstay for both serious athletes and casual throwers.
With 12,500 square feet and 30 lanes of axe throwing space, LA AX will be the largest in North America, able to accommodate as many as 325 people at one time. It is the perfect destination for corporate/team building events, birthdays, bachelor/ette parties, holiday gatherings and more. The size and location of LA AX is sure to bring the best international athletes to compete between its walls. For a limited time, LA AX is inviting parties to BYOF (bring your own food) with snacks and soft drinks also available for purchase. LA AX is in the process of obtaining their beer and wine permit, but for now, no alcohol is permitted unless under special permit. The space itself provides a fitting addition to the mélange of artistic, entertainment and gritty industrial spaces in North Hollywood. Photos of the facility can be found here.
No experience is necessary to throw though, as LA AX’s “axeperts” enable throwers of all skill levels over the age of 21 to become Jason Momoa for a day. Sessions range from one to two and a half hours depending on the size of the party with each beginning with a safety tutorial and technique training.
Afterwards, the coaches initiate a Round Robin tournament and eventually crown a champion who can brag about being the most prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse. LA AX offers private events, parties and walk-ins. For more committed axe lovers, their competitive leagues will meet once a week over the course of eight weeks with the goal of building a brand-new axe community in Los Angeles. All throwing activities will conform to The National Axe Throwing Federation (www.nationalaxe.com) rules. The NATF (whose standards LA AX follows) is the governing body for the sport and regulates rules, scoring and safety protocols with thousands of members in over 55 cities and seven countries.
LA AX was founded in 2018 and was inspired by the rise of competitive urban axe throwing in Toronto, Canada. The sport originated in a backyard in Ontario in 2006 and has been catching on like wildfire ever since. With millions of people having already picked up an axe of their own, it was finally time for the sport to come to Los Angeles. Co-Owner and CEO Joshua Chalom, who lived in Los Angeles in the 1980s, felt that it was the perfect launch pad for a unique sports and entertainment facility. LA AX was officially born when Co-Founder and General Manager Jimmy Rose, a Philadelphia based entrepreneur, joined Chalom to recruit Operations Manager Carly aka SEVEN. A fixture in the community in her own right, Carly has been competing for over three years and even achieved the exclusive perfect score of 81. “Axe throwing is low tech entertainment in a high-tech world,” Carly says, “and we hope that groups looking for something different that doesn’t involve apps or screens will enjoy a chance to let loose and try something primal. LA AX will provide a safe space to help build a community of individuals who may never have crossed paths without axe throwing.”
LA AX is located at 7308 Coldwater Canyon Ave, North Hollywood, CA 91605.
Events can be booked on their website booking page (www.la-ax.com/book-now/), by calling 888-979-LAAX or by contacting them through email@example.com.
