Come over and enjoy a taste of the NoHo Arts District with interactive art murals, art installations, live painting, and art vendors. Don’t miss one of NoHo’s free theatre performances - a sampling of what our 20 theatres do all year. Music will be everywhere with amazing DJs from The Federal’s Snapback Live, Noise Revolt, Wulfpack and Station1640. Grab a bite from our local restaurants and the Vegan Street Fair food trucks.

The #NoHoBlockParty is brought to you by the folks at Council District 2 Paul Krekorian, Valley Cultural Center, NoHo Arts District.com, EMX and NoHo ArtWalk, The Federal NoHo, the Vegan Street Fair, NoHo Neighborhood Council and LACMA Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

I have been a muralist my entire life. After twelve years as a lead artist for Walt Disney Imagineering, I began to create digital murals for Universal and Disney all around the world. However, eight years ago I shifted gears to built a non-profit, Exceptional Minds. It is a visual effects and animation school for talented young adults with Autism. As the Executive Director, I helped nine of our graduates get permanent jobs in local studios, including Marvel and Cartoon Network. Another 24 artist currently work in the in-house studios. The visual effect team has worked on projects like Star Wars: the Last Jedi and Marvel’s Black Panther. The animation team has completed projects for the Los Angeles Zoo, Sesame St. and the Special Olympics.

We have created the Mural-ism organization to inspire a diverse community to work together in the beautification of North Hollywood specifically and Los Angeles in general. The program will give people with special needs the opportunity to learn from local artist to create paint by number murals that the entire community come out to paint.

During the 1985 Olympics Los Angeles was the city of a thousand murals. With the Olympics coming to Los Angeles in 2028, we have a lot to do to get ready. Thousands of walls in the city need to be reclaimed and beautified before the world is invited in for the great event. Join us in paining 100 murals before the Olympics.

Due to an eleven year moratorium, murals were actually banned in the city of LA. In 2011 we were commissioned by Paul Krekorian’s office to paint the first sanctioned mural in the San Fernando Valley since the ban. We brought together artists, special needs schools and the entire community to paint it. This last year the same group of artist, along with the local community, painted a mural at the north end of North Hollywood Park as part of a Boy Scout Eagle Project. Over the last eight weeks we worked with the NOHO neighborhood council and Council District 2 to paint a community mural on wood panels as part of Noho Summer Nights. Now we have an exciting opportunity to paint a whole new set of panels as part of the NoHo Block Party. We invite everyone to come to our booth, find the color you like and fill in the numbers that correspond to that color.

See you at the #NoHoBlockParty on Saturday, August 11 from 3-10PM
