Nancy is founder and president of NoHo Communications Group, Inc., an arts, education and marketing management company. This historical event had a record-breaking crowd of theater owners, actors, musicians, and invited guests cheering as Nancy took the stage to accept this coveted award. This annual award is given to those who help promote and preserve the arts in Los Angeles. As an outstanding member of the San Fernando Valley Theater community, Nancy has accepted this well-deserved honor. The Valley Theater Awards (VTA) is produced by Paul Storiale, a multiple theater director in NoHo, as well as President of the NoHo Neighborhood Council. Gifted co-hosts Bree Pavey and Rick Shaw set the tone for laughter and warmth as they gleefully gave out all the well-deserved awards. In its fourth year, this event is a place for fun, humor, recognition of talent as well as connections to the wonderful NoHo Arts District community.
If you don't know Nancy Bianconi, here is a little background about the person who has worked to put NoHo Arts on the map. As a child, her interest in theater and the arts led her to dance, music and stage performances at a very young age. Nancy was born in Baltimore, MD, but found herself in New York City and eventually Los Angeles, where her uncanny talent in marketing and love of the arts in its entirety took a different direction. The City of Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency tapped her to head the NoHo Arts Festival in 2000, and with this monumental success came the development of the NoHo Arts District. Knowing that this was an opportunity to make a huge difference; she moved to NoHo and continued to pursue the successful development of arts in this area. The goal was to make a strong and financially independent theater and arts district in her neighborhood. Her marketing skills and theater background led to an overwhelming renewal of an area that had seen better days. Not surprisingly, with her daughter Lisa’s contributions, their online publication NoHo Arts District.com boasts 300,000 visits each month, a site for theater lovers and everything NoHo.
Located at the eastern part of the San Fernando Valley, this one square-mile neighborhood is a cultural haven for 20 theaters, many restaurants, and emerging retail. As a tourist attraction, the NoHo Arts district is beaming with energy and talent. In fact, this is the largest concentration of theaters outside of New York City in the United States. Therefore, it is not surprising that Nancy would be honored by this fantastic community of admirers and peers.
It was an honor to see such a deserving person as Nancy recognized for her enthusiasm and devotion to the continued development of the arts. Among all the shimmering evening gowns, tight fancy outfits and interesting head gear, the one and only Ms.Nancy Bianconi sparkled the most. The award was presented by long-time friend Taylor Gilbert, artistic director of The Road Theatre Company and the show was co-produced by Linda Fulton, executive director of Improv for Kids.
Congratulations, Nancy, on your award, and for being a role model. Your vision and determination has helped so many. This award is well deserved and we thank you.
