The NoHo Arts District dot Com team loves music, musicals and anything with music history, especially if it’s in the district. So head to the theatre on Sunday, December 4 to see the Class of '56. Why?

December 4, 1956 has gone down in history as the date that the so-called Million Dollar Quartet -- Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley -- all famously met at Sun Record Studios in Memphis. On that same date this year, KWICK Productions will commemorate the 60th anniversary of that meeting with a musical celebration, Class of '56, at the El Portal Theatre starring Travis Daggett, Neil Morrow, Lance Lipinsky and Jacob Roman.

DATE:

Sunday, December 4
Showtimes at 1PM and 6PM

VENUE:

El PORTAL THEATRE

We asked KWICK Productions more about this show and the historical significance.

Why was December 4, 1956 so important?

Four of the most influencial musicians of the time participated in an impromptu studio jam session that day. To have so much talent and inspiration in one room is really something special. Something to be celebrated. Especially when they complimented each other so wonderfully. It's also a good reminder of humility and that it's possible to have a good time and leave competition behind, sometimes.

Why did you decide to do a show on these guys?

We wanted to honor these men. They pioneered an entire generation of music, and the fact that their legacy is still alive and thriving 50 years later speaks for itself. The music is timeless, and we think it's important to help bolster appreciation for their influence on current music amongst younger generations.

Why did you chose Jacob, Lance, Neil and Travis to represent these musical icons?

These young men are incredible artists in their own rights. Each of them have their own unique interpretation of the members of the Million Dollar Quartet, while still preserving a purity and innocence true to the era. These amazing artists offer truly great entertainment and a sense of nostalgia for older and younger fans alike.

Who is KWICK Productions?

We are a family. The production crew, the musicians, the artists, and the people who come out to support our shows -- we are a family. We started putting on these shows because we love the music and love to see people happy. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing people singing along, nodding their heads, and dancing in their seats.

What shows do you have coming up in the NoHo Arts District?

We don't have any other shows coming up in the NoHo Arts District, unfortunately, but we are currently working on our schedule and hope to bring more great entertainers to the area in the near future.

What's your favorite part about the NoHo Arts District?

It's important to have a space that promotes creativity and art. The NoHo Arts District really encompasses the meaning of community through its support of music and theatre. We love that there is always a show to see, and the local eateries add to the perfect night out.

Is there anything else you'd like to highlight?

YES!!! The audience who attends our productions always leave with a feel good moment, wanting for more. The 60th Anniversary Musical Celebration of the Class of '56 will be no different. Let's get nostalgic and for two hours go back to that magical day.
