Are
You Ready to Throw Out Your New Year’s
Resolutions?
If you’re still not ready to rip up the list,
we’ve jotted down six of the most common resolutions and
some simple ways to actually stick to them --Through the
Arts!
1
Battle of the Bulge AKA “Remake Yourself”
For most, overeating comes from boredom.
Get out and have fun with friends and family in
NoHo. You
can’t snack in a theatre or an art gallery. You’ll see
the pounds shed before you know it.
OR, Dance It Off. Millennium has a rigorous Pilates class that will ease you
into an exercise routine.
Once you’re ready, check out their dance classes,
especially their heart pumping Hip Hop classes.
MKM Cultural Center also has a variety of fun
classes to get you in the mood to exercise. Their belly
dancing and flamenco classes will get you moving and
you’ll have a blast doing it. Exercise
can be enjoyable in NoHo! Dance
Guide
To
give yourself a little push and pampering, try a facial or
body wrap at CC Skincare
do your hair, buy an outfit that you would never buy
yourself. You’ll like the results after 15 minutes in
the new you. Visit our Business
Directory – where the arts and business meet.
2
Stop smoking
Even if you've tried to quit before and failed, don't
worry. On average, smokers try about four times before
they quit for good. It’s a habit, after coffee, after
dinner, while driving in traffic, etc.
Change your habits and find ways and places that
don’t allow you to smoke.
You can’t smoke in a theatre. See a show and you
won’t miss that cigarette.
Theatre Guide.
A wise woman once told me that it takes 100 days to break
a habit (smoking, overeating, bad boy/girlfriend, biting
your nails, etc.). So take 100 days and fill them with
art. Gallery Guide
3
Find a Mate – Your Prince or Princess Charming
Is love on your list? That same wise woman once told me
that love comes when you aren’t looking.
So what to do? Enjoy yourself and get out of the
house. Experience the joy the arts bring, and find a mate
that has the same interests as you. Is supporting the arts one of the values you look for in a
significant other? It
should! Find
like-minded guys and gals at the theatre
or a gallery
show.
4
Get Out of Debt – Pay My Bills Pay My Bills
Was
money a big source of stress in your life last year? Join
the rest of us who have resolved to spend less but still
enjoy life. The
favorite Saturday night outing is dinner and a movie.
But how much do you usually spend: parking, dinner,
tip, movie tickets, popcorn and a soda?
They add up. Dinner and theatre tickets are less expensive and are your
answer for an alternative Saturday night out on the town. Check out our Dining Section
for a variety of cuisine options. Explore the art in NoHo at The
Lankershim Art Gallery, NoHo
Modern or Chandler Outdoor Gallery.
You will find original works of art to fit your
budget.
