Glamour for a Cause

Last Saturday, July 16, 2016 in Downtown LA, the world of eco fashion came together to celebrate something bigger than just clothes and makeup.

The host of the night, Sica Schmitz, the founder of Bead and Reel—an online ethical apparel clothing label—found herself sharing her wonderfully magnificent and socially responsible designs with Los Angeles. Schmitz began her company in 2014 after having a hard time finding fashionable outfits that met her vegan and humanitarian values. Therefore, Bead and Reel went offline and joined The Fair Trade Fashion Show with models and the whole shebang to fundraise closer to their goal of supporting working women in marginalized countries.

Additionally, luckily the good deeds of the night didn’t end there. Local college students from The Art Institute of California Hollywood Fashion Club joined The Fair Trade Fashion Show and volunteered to make sure the fashionable night was a success. While the crew set up the catwalk, the Fashion Club organized the pop up shops, prepared the outfits, and dressed the models.

A huge thanks to Sica Schmitz for allowing us students to have hands on experience who are in pursuit of a degree in Fashion Design and Marketing—and another huge thanks to Julia Szkiba (Fashion Club Advisor) and Adam Montelongo (Fashion Club President) for organizing and leading our Art Institute team.

Art Institute (Ai) Fashion Club at the Hollywood campus located in the heart of the NoHo Arts District has a mission to share, explore, and inspire creativity in an engaging, fabulous and fashionable way! A fairly new club, only just starting two quarters ago has already taken off in the right direction helping produce fashion shows, panel discussions, and being involved in everything fashion inside and out of the L.A. scene.
