Intuition, the BFF of your business and life

“Intuition will tell the thinking mind where to look next”
-Dr. Jonas Salk

Decisions, decisions, decisions. We’re faced with them countless number of times from the moment we wake up and choose which is the right side of the bed to get out of, to the sleep ritual we select at night to decompress. We are managing our choices constantly. According to various sources an adult on average makes 35,000 decisions a day and a child makes approximately 3000. That number may sound absurd, but in fact, we make 226.7 decisions each day on just food alone according to researchers at Cornell University (Wansink and Sobal, 2007). Sheesh. I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

Producers, parents, professionals, people, we all are faced with decision-making.

Resources are helpful, advisors are helpful, rational thinking is helpful, but when it comes down to it, knowing your self, tuning in, and trusting your intuition is a valuable asset and sets you apart as a leader.

And it can have some extremely important practical benefits. Like this for example:

A funny thing happened to me on the way home from the shoot Thursday night. We were in Atlanta to shoot an awards show promo and I’d been feeling a bit funky for a couple of days. I worked from my hotel room, skipped a couple meetings (not like me) but showed up for the shoot pumped. This was music, and hip-hop, and my hometown. We were in it to win it! My production manager insisted that the hotel come and check me out when I got back and damn Daniel, I had an almost 102 fever! Something was not right.

I thought I would hang in there, tough it out, sweat it out but something was telling me oh heck no, check it out! Get yourself to the ER girl and I decided to listen to that intuitive voice. I did what every girl has been taught to do. Put on clean underwear and clothes and Uber to the ER.

I’ll spare you the details but suffice it to say that I am writing this a week later in Atlanta recovering from an emergency appendectomy. Things went well and I am so lucky but I really get how it happened that way. I listened to my intuition! I avoided a lot of pain and suffering had I let the condition worsen.

We all have the natural ability to use our Intuition to serve us in powerful ways, in life and in business. It’s distributed equally to all and accessible to everyone. When we embrace and accept this powerful understanding, we can tap into our Intuitive intelligence and discover we have the most powerful ally and resource in moving our lives and our business forward.

“It is through science that we prove, but through intuition that we discover. “
-Henri Poincare

So the next time you’re in a quandary trying to “make” a decision, try on the “quiet your mind listen to your gut ask for inner guidance” approach and see if it has some wisdom to share. I know mine did.

Happy to say I will see you on set soon!
