In Hollywood they say everyone wants to be a Director.
Well from my little corner in Hwood I say everyone wants to be a Producer. And the funny thing is, we all are. Not that I want anyone to take my job (don’t even think about it) but if you are wondering how to become a producer in Hollywood or get better at anything you strive for, I think you need look no farther than your own life to see how you do in these areas.
Listening: How we listen not only impacts what we say but is also the foundation of all of our relationships. A skill that we aren’t taught in school, listening is the gateway to learning and making people feel that they are valuable. Take some time to tune into what kind of listener you are and develop the skill of real engagement with your mind and heart. You may discover gold where you did not know it existed before. When the people we are with feel heard they are empowered to be the best they can be.
Curiosity: Producers are always asking who, what, why, and how and that curiosity finds ways to make the impossible possible in countless situations. Nurturing your curiosity cultivates an atmosphere of openness and encourages others to be creative.
Open to Feedback: Putting your ego aside is a helpful skill when you are constantly exposing your ideas to others and bringing people together for a common goal. Be willing to learn from your mistakes and find the learning in every situation.
1. the quality of bending easily without breaking….what else needs to be said? We all benefit from the ability to adapt and adjust with the greatest of ease in any area of life.
Collaboration: Producing, like any business or family for that matter, requires teamwork. Your chose your team because they are dreamers and creative problem solvers and everyone benefits when you foster creativity. Leave your door open for input and ideas and watch everyone work smarter, together, and have more fun.
"If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself."
- Henry Ford
